Feeding an Obsession February 19, 2009

So, I have been sheepishly shy about admitting my obsession until now. I have decided I can’t hide it anymore. I HAVE A STRANGE FASCINATION WITH NEEDLEPOINT ART! There, I said it. Now some of you might not quite understand what I mean by this and if so, I am going to give you a walking tour of some of my best pieces. I must have 10 or so of these in my house now and every single one of them has come from the local Goodwill. I just can’t imagine anyone wanting to give these treasures away! What spurred this sudden admission of my fixation you may ask? Well, yesterday, my lovely housemate Carolyn brought home this little gem to add to my collection since she knows how much I love Owls, and I just had to share it with you all:

Here are some of my other favorites:

So yeah, now you all know my secret. Feel free to laugh. I don’t mind. I’ll just stay in my house all day and knit while enjoying my needlepoint art, drinking coffee and listening to NPR. Call me crazy if you want, but boy would I be happy!

Dead moose, dead moose…. December 18, 2008

On my last trip to the Goodwill, I got Wallace this adorable little stuffed moose.  It has a festive little holiday scarf on it.  Since it’s entrance into our home, Wallace had proceeded to make it his new favorite toy by first ripping out it’s eyes and then pulling Moosey’s head stuffing out through his eye-holes.  I only hope that Wallace does not decide to someday make Nick or I his favorite toy.  What a way to go…

I’ve been busy knitting the last few days.  So what else is new, right?  I finished the sweater for mom last night.  It is the Frontier Blues Jacket from Knitscene Magazine and designed by Wendy Bernard.  Here is a picture of it pre-blocking (the picture isn’t that nice and the color looks all funky, my apologies):

I’m looking forward to giving this to her.  It’s pretty cute on, I hope she likes it.

In other news it’s been snowing like crazy here.  Well, it snowed a couple days ago and there is more on the forecast for tomorrow.  After two days of sunshine, our front yard still looks like this:

blog-photos-067That is how cold it has been.  Burrr!  I think the high the other night was something VERY cold for Reno like 17 degrees or something.  Now, I am sure anyone from the Midwest would probably laugh in my face right now but, you know, it’s all relative…

Lastly, amidst all of my frantic knitting, I found time to make our Christmas cards this year.  I got the idea from Angry Chicken when she posted about this awesome stamp set she picked up at Michaels.  I know it’s very Martha Stewart of me (ironically, these stamps are Martha’s brand) but I grew up doing this stuff with my mom.  It’s taken a while for me to get back into it.  I’m excited to send these out.  I had fun making them.  Here’s a preview…

Anyway, back to my knitting….

Good times, good times…

On another note, i’ll be selling my wares at the November Art on the Lawn hosted by The Never Ender and Lavender Ridge. If anyone is going to be around in Reno on November 21st and 22nd, i’ll be out there doin’ my thing. In the meantime, it’s going to be a mad rush to make enough stuff to sell…wish me luck!

My Prom dress is better than your prom dress… August 1, 2008

Filed under: Silliness — marinade @ 4:08 pm

A little bad poetry for you on a Friday morning…

Ode to my pink River Prom dress:

When I saw you at the Goodwill,
I knew you had to be mine,
You were the prefect dress for River Prom,
I know you’ll always shine.

I will wear you in the river,
I am sure you will get wet,
People will squint their eyes to look at you,
Only in admiration, don’t you fret.

Barbie never dressed so well,
She’ll envy me the day,
I wear you on the river,
I’ll be Queen in every way.

All hail the perfect River Prom dress, 2008! I can’t wait to wear this tomorrow at the 5th annual River Prom that my friends put on. It’s a ridiculous good time… I’ll be posting photos for sure.

Also, Tamale making party at my house tonight…more on that soon…
